School Football Report
On Saturday morning Mr Armstrong and Mr Dennis took two teams of Year 5/6 boys and girls to the annual 6-a-side football tournament at William Howard. The overnight rain did not dampen the children’s spirits although the pitches did prove a little testing at times. Both teams coped well with the conditions and gave an excellent account of themselves against several other local schools. The A-team enjoyed victories over Hayton A, Hayton B, Brampton B (sorry boys and girls) and Scotby. The Scotby match proved to be the game of the day after we clawed back a two goal margin to win 3-2, with the winner being netted literally on the final whistle. Incredible stuff! A further draw and two defeats meant that the A-team did enough to earn a semi-final spot. However, after a close game against a very talented Longtown team, the A-team eventually lost 1-0. The boys and girls involved showed great heart and can take some comfort in the fact that the team that narrowly knocked them out went on to win the final comfortably. Although the B-team did not enjoy such a fruitful morning in terms of results, the progress made throughout their performances gave us all a lot of heart and the children played all games in the right spirit. Mr Dennis and I are certain that those Year 5 boys involved will benefit greatly from the experience when it comes to next year’s tournament. Keep the faith lads.
Well done to all children who were involved and thank you to all those parents and children who turned out to cheer on the teams. We now look forward to the 5-a-side tournament at the Sands Centre in January.
