TIMES TABLE CHALLENGE
Welcome back and Happy New Year. As maths leader I have set the children in our school a new year’s resolution… to learn their times tables. Every week from now until the Easter break we will be focusing on a times table up to 12 x 12. Each Monday the children will find out the times table during our assembly. The assembly will involve singing a song, playing games and questioning children about the times table. As well as this, the children will be tested in their house teams at the end of each week on the times table we have looked at and the results will be shared at the following week’s assembly. It is vital that children know their times tables and can recall them randomly and quickly. The government’s target is that children know all of their times tables in this way by the end of Year 4. As a school we really want to help each child achieve this aim and really appreciate any support you, as parents can give. Chanting, random questioning, playing Bingo, sibling support and songs will help this. Each week there will be loop cards for each times table out on the playground which you could help your child to complete; this will also allow you to see which times table we are covering. Thank you in advance, we look forward to the progress each child will make with their times tables.
