Year 2 Mrs Walker

smiley Welcome to Year 2 smiley

Welcome back! I hope that you all had a wonderful summer and managed to enjoy the sunny days when they happened. I visited lots of fun places including Dino Park, Lowther Castle, Talkin Tarn, Tullie House and Bitts Park.

We are starting the Autumn term with a story called ‘Something Special’. I hope that the children chat to you about the text as it is a great link to our topic this half term which is ‘All About Me’.

In year 2 the children will stay as a class for all of their lessons. The class is taught by Mrs Walker from Monday until Thursday morning and by Mrs Bouch on Thursday afternoons and all day Friday. Each day will consist of a maths lesson and a Literacy and Language lesson, as well as daily spelling which builds on the work the children have completed during Read Write Inc in year 1.

P.E. is on Wednesday and Thursday. Children must ensure they have the correct kit in school. This includes a white t-shirt, black or navy shorts and trainers or plimsolls. No jewellery should be worn during P.E. lessons.

Homework is given every Wednesday and needs to be completed by the following Monday. Homework consists of weekly spellings and a maths or literacy/topic activity. It is vital that your child reads every night too and their Reading Record needs to be completed each time.

Finally year 2 is a milestone in your child’s education, it marks the end of Key Stage One. In May your child will complete SATS assessments. Over the year there will be lots of opportunities to gain information about what these involve but listening to your child read each night, encouraging your child to complete homework tasks and simply talking about your child’s day is an excellent way of ensuring your child achieves the best they can.

I look forward to a super year with the children in my class. If you have any queries or concerns do not hesitate to catch me on the playground each morning or at the end of school.
