Welcome to Mrs Israel and Mr Armstrong's Year 3 Class
Happy New Year 2018 and welcome back to our Spring term here at Brampton! I am so excited about the upcoming term with my fabulous Year 3s! I hope that, like me, you have had both a restful and exciting Christmas holiday with lots of fun and family time. This Christmas I was lucky enough to visit Santa, watch the pantomime 'Sleeping Beauty' and go bowling. I’m sure that the Year 3 children are ready for the fun and busy term ahead and will approach their work with determination, enthusiasm and a positive ‘can do’ attitude.
The spring term kick started with a 'Tudor Tales' story in Literacy which included lots of real characters and gruesome facts. We have three of these books to read in total based on Henry VII, Henry VIII and Mary Queen of Scots. The first book was amazing so we can't wait to read the next one! The Year 3 (and Year 4) topic will be ‘The Tudors’. This is a fantastic history topic which has already got us very excited! We are looking forward to learning about The Battle of Bosworth, Tudor foods, Tudor houses and Henry VIII's six wives. Please read the newsletter (using the link at the bottom of the page) to find out about the rest of the topics this term.
Your child will continue to be given some homework each week on a Monday which should be returned on a Thursday. Homework consists of essential daily reading (please read with your child 3x a week and record in their yellow homework diary), spellings and a Literacy or Numeracy activity. Homework is best completed in a few short sessions rather than in one long session. It would be great if parents could help their child plan when he/she will complete their homework. Your child will be given a durable plastic folder to place their homework book and diary in as well as letters and class books. Children are encouraged to use their yellow homework diary to record any homework they complete. Diaries can also be used between home and school as a line of communication if you so wish.
This Year 3JI’s PE sessions will take place each week on both a Tuesday and Thursday afternoon. It is vital that all children are prepared for these lessons by ensuring they have the correct kit. PE kit consists of: white or red plain t-shirt, black or blue plain shorts (tracksuit bottoms can be worn in cold weather) and either trainers or plimsolls. No jewellery should be worn and long hair should be tied back for safety reasons.
As you will already know I have the role of SENDco in school, which involves some non-teaching time, meaning that Tuesday and Thursday afternoons and Fridays in Year 3 will be taught by Mr Armstrong – the children are very excited about this as they have already built up a fantastic relationship from their time in the infant! I will of course still be available in school should you need me.
I am really looking forward to the term ahead; having this super opportunity to work with our fantastic children and witnessing them work towards their full potential.
Thanks for reading!
