Welcome to Mrs Paisley’s Year 6 Class
I wish you all a Happy New Year!
I hope you have all had a restful break and enjoyed the festivities. It’s now time to get back to work and enjoy 2017! Our term starts with a short ‘2-day’ week which will allow the children to ease back into their stride.
I’m certain the Year 6 children will continue to work hard in 2017 and all make the progress they are capable of. We have had a number of discussions about how important it is to try our best at all times, even if some things are a little tricky! The children have lots of full workbooks to be proud of and it is my pleasure to mark the work they create. Well done.
During the afternoon sessions we will start work on our science topic, ‘Electricity’ as well as continuing our main topic which is the ‘Rivers, Mountains, Earthquakes and Volcanoes’ for the duration of the first half of Spring Term before moving onto our next topic - WWII. For further details about our topics please have a look at our newsletters which you will find at the bottom of this page. It would be great if children could remember to bring an old shirt in for ‘cover-up’ during messy activities. Some children have this organised.
I know there are lots of children keen to take part in extra-curricular activities; I look forward to seeing the commitment they give to the clubs they attend. We have one of our most popular clubs - gymnastics - during the Spring Term.
Homework: I would like to congratulate the year 6 children on the completion of their homework (most of us are now completing it). Along with the excellent work they produce in school, the effort and high standard of work continues at home in their homework books. Well done year 6! Just to remind you, your child will be given some homework each week and I would appreciate it if you could help your chid to plan when he/she should spend time completing homework as it is best to do frequent short sessions rather than all of it in one evening. Homework is given out on Monday and returned on Thursday.
Also, each child has a yellow homework diary in which they should record the books they are reading and page numbers they reach each time they read and anything else they need to remember. Feel free to use this diary as a channel of communication between home and school should you wish too.
Children will continue to have P.E. on both Tuesday afternoon and Friday morning and they will need to remember their kit on these days. This half term we are going to be completing units of work based on gymnastics and Tag Rugby. I should remind everybody; P.E. kit includes white or red plain T-shirts (not the polo shirt they are wearing all day), black or blue shorts and either trainers or plimsolls. No jewellery should be worn for safety reasons. P.E. is part of the curriculum and it is important for children to have their P.E. kit on the appropriate day.
