Fantastic Mr Fox D&T

Make Mr Fox a new tail

In chapter 3, we read that poor Mr Fox lost his precious, bushy tail.  Perhaps if we can make him a new one, he won’t feel so miserable and heartbroken.

If you can, could you try to make Mr Fox a 3D tail using any crafty bits and pieces you have at home or can find in your gardens.  To start with to form a long thin shape, you could use a cardboard tube – either from kitchen towel or a couple of toilet roll tubes attached together with cellotape.  Failing that, you could use some sticks and twigs to form this shape.

Once you have a base, you could start to attach materials to either your cardboard tube or sticks.  When selecting materials, think about their texture and what Mr Fox would find the most comfortable.

Ideas for materials:

  • Cotton wool
  • Wool
  • Felt
  • Pipe cleaners
  • Thin strips of paper rolled up
  • Feathers
  • Leaves
  • Tissue paper
  • Tissues
  • Kitchen towel

You do not need to buy any materials – just use what you have at home and in your gardens.

If this isn’t possible, you could draw or paint Mr Fox a soft, fluffy tail instead.

Please share your wonderful tail creations on ClassDojo.
