Brampton boys cricket team put on a fne display at the Carlisle schools cricket competition. This was a new experience for all of the boys having not played any competitive games until now.
Our first game was against Newtown and with nerves jangling we headed onto the field. Each team starting at 200 and -5 for any wickets the boys bowled and fielded well managing to restrict Newtown's total to 217. Our team began batting with great gusto and by the final ball was played we had amassed a total of 301. A great start and the boys were on a high.
Our second game was against Inglewood school. This time we had to bat first and the boys were up for some runs after their initial game. Sixes and fours a plenty the huge total of 317 was what faced our oponents. A special mention must go to Harley Dodd who took eight wickets with catches and bowling. Inglewoods final total 211 was was not going to trouble our score.
At this point there was talk of winning the competition!
The boys were soon brought back to earth with their game against Stanwix A. A team full of members of Carlisle Cricket Club made the difference. Fielding first wickets were hard to come by, the Stanwix batsmen put on a well earned 274. From our previous scores this was not impossible but the oppositions bowlers were quick and accurate. Unfortunately we came short on 215.
Our final game was against Cumwhinton. Not letting the previous game affect them the team restricted Cumwhintons total to 217. It was back to business for our batters with a final total of 271.
Four games and one loss for a first attempt is something to be really proud of.
