Girls' 5-a-side Football

Well done to our Year 5 and 6 girls' football team who took part in the tournament at the Sands Centre on Saturday.    Having not entered the tournament in recent memory, we were unsure what to expect and uncertain about how we would get on but the girls were totally unfazed.

Sadly, some of our group opponents failed to arrive so we played two games against both Cumnwhinton and Hayton in our group after a warm up friendly against Dearham.  Having lost this game and their first group game narrowly to Hayton (0-1), the girls were eager to get back on the pitch.  A draw against Cumwhinton (1-1) showed signs of growing confidence which lead to an impressive victory against Hayton (3-0) shortly after.  In the final group game they really found their feet, scoring five in an impressive victory against Cumnwhinton (5-0).  This left the girls in top spot in their group with a quarter final to look forward to.

By this stage the girls had real belief and were eager to get back on the pitch once again.  However, after giving it their all, they were beaten by a good side from Fairfield and the afternoon came to end.

The girls were brilliant.  They demonstrated great enthusiasm, team spirit, eagerness to learn and perseverance throughout and all those who watched were very proud of their efforts.

Well done girls and thank you to everyone who came down to support them.
