We have had a great first day! After arriving safely, we were greeted by our leader for the week (Russ) who gave us some information about the house and procedures and set the children the first tricky challenge of our visit -making their beds! With a little help, we managed this and enjoyed our lunches before heading out for our afternoon activities.
Please see the earlier post (Hawse End update) to see the photo link for today. My group enjoyed an afternoon in the ghyll where we not only tackled fallen trees, waterfalls and tunnels but ended with some jumping in to pools - lots of fun!
Miss Cook's group were out on Derwentwater in kayaks and although we had a few steering issues, the children had a fantastic time and came back to the house wet and happy!
Mr Clark's group started with some competitive orienteering around the grounds of the house and became much more confident in their map reading and locating kites they needed for their record sheets.
Just like every year, the food was excellent tonight and we enjoyed pasta bolognaise and garlic bread followed by home made apple crumble and ice cream. We then set up for breakfast and went on a night walk down to the shore where we had a fantastic firework surprise. After supper of shortbread and a drink, the children then settled in to their rooms though have been very excited as we always expect on night one! However, the bedrooms have finally fallen quiet as I type so it is almost time for us to go to bed too!
We will upload tomorrow's photos and update tomorrow night too so keep checking back.
