Many Sporting Successes to Report!

It has certainly been a very busy half term for the children of BPS. Hope you enjoy reading about what they have been up to...

Firstly, on Wednesday 8th March the Y34 and Y56 gym teams travelled to Carlisle to take part in the second round of the gym competition which was held at Carlisle Gym Club. Prior to this event the children really impressed both Mrs Armstrong and me with their determination to learn and improve their routines. The day began with a performance to the whole school during assembly time - they received rapturous applause and the experience really helped them learn to deal with their nerves. We arrived at the competition safely and the children performed fantastic floor routines and vaults for the judges. The following day we were sent the results and the Y34 children did incredibly well to finish in 2nd place just missing out on the qualifying spot for the finals! Although a little disappointed with the end result, the Y56 team also did really well to finish 6th in a very tough competition. A huge well done and thank you very much to the children for their efforts; a big thank you to Mrs Armstrong for working with Y34 and to the parents for cheering us on!

As well as the gym competition, the 8th March was also the Year 1 and 2 multi-skills festival at William Howard School. The children enjoyed taking part in lots of different activities organised by the WHS teachers and students. They enjoyed receiving their certificates in assembly and telling us what they had been doing. Thank you to Mrs Shovlin and Mrs Harrison-Woodward for taking the children to the event.

Next up, the rescheduled Annual KS2 Netball Tournament. This event took place on Tuesday 14th March at William Howard School. We had two teams of children attending the event, each a squad of a 8 and a good mix of boys and girls. They played well as a team to battle it out in some closely fought matches. All of the children were really pleased to finish in 2nd and 4th respectively. Thank you very much to Miss Miller who accompanied the children and cheered them on throughout the morning.

A hectic March continues with Lanercost Cross Country, the next event in the sporting calendar. Lots of children (and parents - thank you) made an effort to travel to Lanercost on Saturday 25th March to take part in the race in glorious sunshine. Determination was certainly the order of the day with many of our younger children having a go at the race for the first time. All of the children ran really well, making every effort to get over the line before their fellow competitors and it paid off as the Y34 team finished in bronze position and the Y56 team came home with the silver medal. Indvidual success was also taken with 3rd place for both Harry Macnaughton and Sienna Taylor. A good morning had by all, well done. Thanks also to Mrs Harrison-Woodward for going along to support and cheer the children on.

Finally, the last event to take place this month was the Badminton and Trampolining Festival for Y56 children. This event was earlier this evening (Thursday 30th March) and we attended with 19 children. All of them had a great time with their peers from their own and other schools whilst learning how to play Badminton and refining their skills on the big trampolines. A special mention goes to both Matthew Williamson and Evan Reynolds who won the 'Badminton Bingo' for outsmarting their opponents. Great fun had by all and perhaps some Badminton racquets are needed back at school?! Thank you to all of the children who made the outing a pleasure and to Miss Miller for accompanying me to the event.

Goodness, what a busy month! Hope you enjoy the photographs.

Thanks,

Mrs Paisley nosmiley
