Today we travelled to the annual Brampton Area Swimming Gala with a team of ten year 6 children. The competition was held at The Pools in Carlisle and although a little nervous, the children were excited to compete. Our day started brilliantly with a win in the two length front crawl heats for Matthew Williamson. This was closely followed by yet another win, this time for Dan Hopper in the one length front crawl. The boys were going well and this success continued with 4th place for both Lewis Charnock (back stroke) and Levi Hillary (breast stroke). They then romped home in their relay heat with a convincing 1st place.
The girls also enjoyed some good results in the pool with Lydia finishing in 5th place in the front crawl race and Jessica Todhunter really pleased to come home with a 3rd in the back stroke heats. To complete their day, the girls worked as a team to finish in 5th place in the relay. Although they were a little disappointed to miss out on the finals, they enjoyed watching and cheering for the boys in their finals.
The final results were as follows:
Matthew Williamson - Bronze medal in the 2x front crawl
Daniel Hopper - Bronze medal in the front crawl
Boys Relay team - Bronze medal - the team consisted of Dan Hopper, Levi Hillary, Matty Williamson and Matthew Nelson who did a great job of the anchor leg.
The children did a great job and although it is good to come home with some medals, all enjoyed their afternoon representing their school regardless.
Thank you to everybody who came along to support the children. The cheering always helps.
