Welcome to Year 2
You will find some information about this half term here.
In topic this half term we are learning about castles. This will start by looking at the Norman Invasion and the Battle of Hastings in 1066 and develop into looking at the features of castles and who lived and worked in them. Please discuss any castles you have visited with your child.
In Science we will be learning materials. We will build on our knowledge from the Autumn term and consider how some materials can be stretched, pulled and twisted.
In P.E. we will be playing lots of games and developing throwing and catching skills. P.E. is on WEDNESDAY. Children can come to school in their P.E. kit on this day. This includes wearing jogging bottoms/leggings on colder days however they MUST wear their school jumper.
Our Literacy work will focus on a significant author 'Dick King-Smith', where we will read the wonderful story 'The Hodgeheg'.
In maths we will be starting to work on fractions which links really well to the division work we covered last term.
Reading: Children will be reading either the Read Write Inc books or the Accelerated Reading books as their class/home reading book. Your child will come out with a number called a ZPD on Accelerated Reader which tells us which books are at the right level for reading and comprehension skills. Children are expected to read shorter books twice (at least once to an adult at home) before completing a quiz on the book in school. If they score above 85% on a quiz for that level of books 3 times then they will move up to the next number within the ZPD.
Homework: Continue to use Spelling Shed and Numbots/TT Rockstars to link to our weekly spellings and times tables. Log in information will be found at the start of your child's reading journal.
We will also be setting a weekly comprehension activity which can be found on Class Dojo or sent in paper form on request.
Here's to some lovely sunny days!
