Welcome to the first term of this academic year!
Welcome to Year 4’s Class Page
We are looking forward to seeing you all again, and to making sure you all feel safe and happy after what has been a long time off school. We know it will be a little bit different to what you are used to, but we will still have a fun and exciting term.
Topics & Themes:
This term we will be learning about ‘The Ancient Greeks’. We will be using a range of sources such as books, maps, pictures and the internet to find out about aspects of life in Ancient Greece such as homes, food, clothes and entertainment. We will be planning and making our own Greek catapult in Design and Technology and exploring Greek pottery and Seurat in our art sessions.
During Science sessions this term, we are going to be learning about ‘Electricity’. We’re looking forward to investigating different types of circuits and creating our own ‘Recycled Robots’ for our mini ‘Robots’ topic.
During this term the children will have PE on Tuesday and Wednesday so those will be the days that they will come in PE kit. We should remind everybody; P.E. kit includes white or red plain T-shirts (not the polo shirt they are wearing all day) blue shorts and either trainers or plimsolls. Black jogging bottoms are fine too as the weather gets colder. No jewellery should be worn for safety reasons.
Homework consists of reading every night, plus weekly spellings and times tables practice. Reading records are to stay at home at the moment, but you can record when your child has read, and make comments. The children can practice their spellings on Spelling Shed, and they are also available to view on our Class Dojo. They will be given out on Monday and will be tested on Friday. In addition to weekly spellings, the children can practice 'tricky word' spellings which are also available on Spelling Shed. These will be tested at the end of each half term. Times table tests take place fortnightly. Times Tables Rockstars is a fun way for children to practice their tables, and there are also games on Hit the Button. Links for Spelling Shed and TT Rockstars are at the bottom of the page.
Our Class Dojo is our main channel of communication. We will put day to day information on there, as well as pictures of what the children have been up to in school. Please do not hesitate to message us via Dojo if you need anything.
