Year 5 - Miss Brewster & Mrs Bouch

Welcome to Miss Brewster and Mrs Bouch's Class

Welcome to Year 5 2021-22

We hope you have had a lovely Easter break and you are ready to get back to work in school.  We are hoping for some lovely weather so that we can take some of our learning outdoors. As at the end of last term, Miss Brewster will be teaching you on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, and Mrs Bouch on Thursday and Friday.

During the afternoon sessions this term, we are going to continue to study Forces in science, and then move on to Living things and their habitats after half term.  We will complete our study of the Vikings in history, and then explore grid references and OS maps in geography.  After half term we will be exploring food technology in DT.  Much more information about our curriculum coverage is available in the Curriculum on a Page document at the bottom of the page.

In PE this term we will be outdoors as much as possible, focusing on tennis, rounders and athletics. The children will have P.E. on Monday afternoon and Tuesday afternoon and will need to have their kit in school on these days.

Just a reminder that P.E. kit includes white or red plain T-shirts, black or blue shorts  and trainers. No jewellery should be worn for safety reasons. P.E. is part of the curriculum and it is important for children to remember to have their P.E. kit on the appropriate day.  They can be left in school for the half term.

Homework: This half term, Year 5 will continue to be given a spelling activity and a maths activity each week. Maths may consist of work in homework books, or an activity on Freckle maths. These will be given out every Friday and should be returned to school by the following Wednesday. The children will also be expected to read nightly, practise their spellings and ensure they can confidently recall times tables facts. Please help your child to plan when they will do their homework so they are able to ask any questions they have before they are expected to hand it in. The tasks will be linked to learning in school and will help the children to develop good organisational skills and working habits.

Links for Spelling Shed and TT Rockstars are at the bottom of the page. Their logins are recorded in their homework diaries as reminders.

Reading Records should be brought to school each day, and should be used to record daily reading out of school, with a signature/comment from someone the children are reading to or with. The children can also read independently sometimes and record the pages they have read. We will check the diaries as regularly as we can and reward pupils for effort with home reading and using their records well.

  • Children should arrive at school between 8:45 - 9:00am at our classroom outside entrance
  • We will finish school at 3:15pm - please maintain social distancing while waiting
  • Children only need to bring a coat, a water bottle (containing water) and their homework folders to school (and obviously a packed lunch if needed) - please avoid bringing bags / pencil cases and any other unnecessary items
  • Have PE kit in school every Monday and Tuesday. This can be left in school.

Our ClassDojo is a good channel of communication for you to reach us at any point should you need to.  Please do not hesitate to contact us if you are concerned about anything.
