Year 5 - Mrs Paisley & Mrs Bouch

Welcome to Mrs Paisley and Mrs Bouch's Class

Welcome to Year 5 2021-22

We are really looking forward to seeing you all as Year 5, and it is great to be teaching you all again. Hopefully we should be able to settle into the new term quickly and confidently as we all know each other, and we are looking forward to the easing of one or two Covid restrictions this term.  Mrs Paisley will be teaching you on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, and Mrs Bouch on Thursday and Friday.

During the afternoon sessions this term, we are going to begin by studying materials in science and world countries in geography. After half term we will be studying the Anglo-Saxons in history and animals including humans in science.  In Design and Technology we will be designing and making our own greetings cards.  Much more information about our curriculum coverage is available in the Curriculum on a Page document at the bottom of the page.

In PE this term we complete units of work in game skills, concentrating on netball and football (and hockey in the second half term). The children will have P.E. on Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday afternoon and will need to have their kit in school on these days.

I should remind everybody; P.E. kit includes white or red plain T-shirts, black or blue shorts (or tracksuit / jogging bottoms in colder weather) and trainers. No jewellery should be worn for safety reasons. P.E. is part of the curriculum and it is important for children to remember to have their P.E. kit on the appropriate day.

Homework: This half term, Year 5 will be given a spelling and maths activity each week. These will be given out every Friday (starting 10th September) and returned to school by the following Wednesday. The children will also be expected to read nightly, practise their spellings and ensure they can confidently recall times tables facts. Please help your child to plan when they will do their homework so they are able to ask any questions they have before they are expected to hand it in. The tasks will be linked to learning in school and will help the children to develop good organisational skills and working habits.

Links for Spelling Shed and TT Rockstars are at the bottom of the page. Their logins are recorded in their homework diaries as reminders.

Homework diaries should be brought to school each day, and should be used to record daily reading out of school, with a signature/comment from someone the children are reading to or with. We will check the diaries as regularly as we can and reward pupils for effort with home reading and using their records well.

Reminders:

  • Children should arrive at school between 8:45 - 9:00am at our classroom outside entrance
  • We will finish school at 3:15pm - please maintain social distancing while waiting
  • Children only need to bring a coat, a water bottle and their homework folders to school (and obviously a packed lunch if needed) - please avoid bringing bags / pencil cases and any other unnecessary items
  • Have PE kit in school every Tuesday and Wednesday

Our ClassDojo is a good channel of communication for you to reach us at any point should you need to.  Please do not hesitate to contact us if you are concerned about anything.
